Fixed size view in SolidWorks drawing

Hi,

Is there a way to create a SolidWorks drawing with fixed size view? I have to create different size models of same series products (they are similar, but of different sizes). And, I want the same size view on all the drawings.

Click on the views and in the feature manager set the desired scale.

RMB the sheet and go to properties. There you can set the sheet scale. Save that to your Template and then when you insert your views they should always come in that scale.

Thanks for your quick replies. I guess I did not state my question properly. What I meant is something like auto-scaling. That way, it does not matter what sizes models are. The view always remains the same size.

We make a lot of drawings for series of products. Within each series, these products have same shapes but different dimensions. The real problem is that when I change dimensions (we use templates), its view on drawing is out of the drawing boarder. I need to rescale the view every time in order to fit it to the drawing size. And then I need to clean up all dimensions. Linear dimensions are not bad (it basically stay with its entities), but angular dimensions are nightmare. SolidWorks throw all angular dimensions wherever it wants. I have to spend a lot time to touch up. I imagine if I can do autoscaling, then I do not need to spend a lot of time to clean the drawing.

You control view scales in a drawing by the scale properties of the sheet. Otherwise, you will have to do it the way your doing it now.

Have you considered making a tabulated drawing, and just have the BOM linked in the properties? This way, you only need 1 drawing for the different parts. Dimension the part as "A", "B", etc., or "length", "width", etc.

Hi, Flores:

We used to make tabulated drawings in AutoCAD. Since we move to SolidWorks, we realized that a tabulated drawing is not good idea for true Solid modelling. The tabulated drawing requires multiple configurations. Multiple configuration means less or no flexibility. We want all solid parts independent for Vaulting/Security purpose.

But I still believe there is a need for fixed size view (like a picture) on SolidWorks drawings. Does anyone know if SW2005 has this feature?

Download SW05 PR2 and test it yourself. it's available to all subscription customers. just be sure and install SW05 into a separate Directory. e.g. - Solidworks05 PR2
