We have received an inquiry asking if we can flame cut Manganese steel plate, up to 2". We usually don't cut anything more exotic than 4140 plate. Are there any problems/limitations? I found a couple supplier sites discussing flame cutting, with seemingly contradictory statements.

(Recommends against flame cutting their Rol-Man due to heat affected area)

(States you can cut with Tensamang with standard torch equipment).

Gas cutting should be possible as we gas cut runners and risers/feeders in our high Mn steel castings. However, this is followed by heat treatment of the casting i.e heating to 1025-1050 C soaking, followed by water quenching.

I have seen users of plates upto 12 mm using these after gas cutting, without any heat treatment. However, the carbon in these plates is about 0.6%.
