Flanged & Flued Thick-Walled Expansion Joint Thickness for S&T Heat Exchangers

This is regarding Flanged & Flued Thick-Walled Expansion Joint Thickness for S&T Heat Exchangers.

As per industry practice Thick Joints have thickness equal or near to Shell thickness.

However, ASME Section VIII Div. 1 App-5 does not specify any upper or lower limit on Expansion Joint thickness w.r.t. Shell Thickness.

1. So can we consider Expansion Joint with 14 mm thickness as Thick-Walled Expansion Joint in case Shell Thickness is 18 mm?

2. Do TEMA provide any guidelines or upper / lower limit on Expansion Joint thickness w.r.t. Shell Thickness?

ashaykadam, only guidance I know of is Appendix 26. 26-2 (b) places a limit on the product of thickness and number of plies. I assume that any expansion joint exceeding this limit would be considered thick-wall.
