Hi to all

Normally the duct design and construction is divided as low, medium and high pressure system. My question is, as to when and why the flanged duct connection in supply and return ducting is required and recommended, what is the basis of this recommendation? I appreciate and thanks any opinion and experiences shared on the subject.

Thanks in advance..

Many, many tin knockers now use Duct Mate for all pressures, both supply and return, and they are flanged.

Duct Mate is easier to install and less expensive than buying and maintaining a huge brake in the shop. Flanged joints are also easier to seal.

Thanks willard3 for the answer, but still I would like to know what is the reason for using or specifying the flanged connections instead of other means of joining duct sections. Does this have special application or engineering reason, need opinions of other experts as well...
Thanks

Based on willard3's answer (and I know nearly nothing about ductwork), I would say the ease of installation, cost-effectiveness and ability to seal the ductwork ARE the reasons to spec this type of duct.

The specifying engineer wants the best product for the customer (given it meets budget constraints). This mehod sounds like it does exactly what is needed at an attractive price.

Specifying this will eliminate headaches from contractors trying something else that may not work as well. It could also keep costs down so that contractors don't bid the job based on more expensive methods.

Just my thoughts....
