Hello,

I have found some data that implies that the size of the flap gaps is critical in order to obtain maximum Lift values. The data suggested that if the gap size were to vary by only about 0.2% chord, there would be a dramatic drop in the maximum lift attainable.

I was wondering if anyone can support these conclusions, or better yet, contradict them. And, if it is true that the gap size is so critical, where can I find some information relating to how to determine the optimum gap sizes or flap positions without extensive calculations?

Any data/information resources relating to the positioning of such flaps would be greatly appreciated.

From experience I know the gap can have a very big effect on stall characteristics. Being slightly out of rig L vs R side, or having the gap "changed" by upper wing surface spoiler deflection can result in rapid wing stall and resulting rolloff.
