Hello All,

I would like to know if there is a section in the ASME VIII-1 which deals with flat circular heads with a spoke pattern of stiffeners. I have not been able to find it, unless maybe I can adapt the section on braced and stayed surfaces (UG-47), but I'm not sure how to do that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

F.Y.I. The head is 108" diameter, 0.5" thick SA-36, the eight stiffeners are equally spaced every 45 degrees. There is a 14" nozzle centered in the head which the stiffeners radiate out from and also a 20" nozzle approximately 30" out from the center of the head in between stiffeners. The stiffeners are 3/16" X 3" X 4" SA-500 rectangular tube.

Thanks in advance,

David

Hi NewMechE.

ASME Section VIII Div.1 does not cover this. U-2(g) would apply.

Also have a look this previous forum discussion... thread794-93914
