Hello,

Look at the attached file. this bended part is imported from solid works 2010. Is there any way to flatten it?
If I remove these "cuts" using syn.modeling with nx6, it is possible to get flat pattern. but it is possible to flat this model not removing "cuts"?

thanks.

no problem:
use analysis -> one step formabilty analsis
or use from the (old)sheetmetall tools metaform
maybe have to create an planar face to flatten on...
give it a try

I've taken a quick look at the data and it appears to be non-regular geometry, basically a twisted free form surface of some kind. With these there are tools that can approximate an unwrapped profile, under sheet metal forming and flattening, but they're not based on bending analysis but rather a finite element method used more often than not for composites and the like. I don't have the license although quite a few people these days do. If you're able to get it to work then it won't develop a solid, but rather just the profile of a single face at a time.

Thanks for the answers.
I tried to use sheet metal forming/flattening, but it gives me only curved profile, not a solid. Actually I need unwraped solid, with its profile.
As mentioned hundson888, maybe I should try wrap/unwrap geometry?

I know of NO module or technique which would result in a 'flattened' solid of this type. The best that you're going to be able to do is to unwrap one or two of the major faces and from there you will need to 'reconstruct' the rest of the 'flattened' solid.
