Flexible sub assembly question.

I have modeled a full extension drawer slide and used limit mates to control it's travel. I would like to insert two copies (RH and LH)of this assembly into a larger assembly and make them flexible so they work properly in the larger assembly. When I try to do this, I get an error message stating that I can only make one of these sub assemblies flexible.

How do I get around this? Please be specific as I am very new to SolidWorks.

Thanks,

Tom

Do you have one drawer assembly with a LH and RH configuration in it?

If you have one assembly with a LH and RH configuration, then you can have a configuration in you upper assembly that "changes" the configuration of the drawer assembly.

If different, let us know...

I only made one assembly because the slide is symetrical.

What do you mean by "configuration".

You can't have 2 different (flexible) sub-assemblies or one (flexible) sub-assembly placed into one final assembly twice referencing the same parts or configurations throughout. That's why your getting the error. The only way around this is by making separate configurations of each of the parts (EX: Right Hand, Left Hand), and making 2 configurations of your sub-assembly (EX: Right Hand, Left Hand). Then you insert 2 sub-assemblies into the final assembly and change their configurations appropriatly.

If you don't know what a configuration is you need to look in the help file for an explanation. FYI - it's the 3rd tab in the Feature manager.

When in doubt, always check the help

I added a right and left hand configuration to the slide assembly, inserted them into the large assembly and they worked fine.

Thanks for the help!
