Does anyone know how to flip the direction a smart fastener goes in a hole? They insert fine but for some reason they come from the side of the hole which should be where the fastener exits. I also noticed that it is creating a concentric mate but not a coincident. sw 2006 4.1

To flip Smart Fasteners:

1) Expand the fastener in the Smart Fasteners PropertyManager.

2) Right-click the Series you want to flip and select Flip.

The heads of the fasteners in the selected series flip to the other side of the joint.

Hmmm I've looked thru all of the right click option in the series of the fastener and there is no "flip" option. The only option I have are - change fastener type, delete and properties. I looked in the properties and couldn't find a flip there either. Any other ideas?

The series does have a "!" mark in yellow beside it but it does not say what the problem is. I think this may be related to the fact that there is no coincidence mate put in by smart fasteners?

When in the "Series" right-click mode, go to Customize and see if the Flip option is available for selection.

Ok did that, there was no "flip" available to turn on in the customize menu section either.

Try adding the coincidence mate first. SW probably cannot "flip" a mate which doesn't exist.

You need to flip them when you are creating them. The option only exists when you are first configuring the feature. It should exist for each series of fasteners within the list.

After the smart fastener is created, when you go back into the property page, the option to flip will be gone. At that point, you need to redefine the mates manually. (Or at least, it works this way in SW2005 SP5.0.)

Maybe that annoying behaviour is worth a bug report/feature request, if it's still present in current versions of SW.

TheFeds, I tried what you said the flip option is not there during the initial configuration or after SF has been created. Could there be an add-in I'm missing? Or something like that ?

Jamaz17 ... have you added the coincidence mate to the Smart Fastener part?

Here's what I see:

The context menu is the one that belongs to the series, not the fastener group.

Cor - yes I added the coincidence and still no luck.

TheFeds - see exactly what you see except for the flip option, I've now looked at this on multiple workstations and for me - the flip does not appear on any of the workstations.

Are you Inserting the Smart Component into the assy or are you "dragging and dropping" it from the Toolbox or SW Explorer? If you are "dragging" it in, try to hit the Tab key before you release the part into the assy. When you hold the component over the area that you want the part to mate to, hitting Tab should flip the alignment.

I am had wanted to insert rather than drag and drop.
