Hello everybody,

I'm working on a Main Station Upgrade Project in Venezuela. Right now I'm specifying an skimmer tank, these tank receive clean water from another skimmer tank previously designed, in spite of the water is clean, it may content some amounts of crude oil. I thinking that the skimmer tank must have an floating device for remove the crude oil layer that could be in surface.
I need to know if is possible to place an floating device in one tank with 24m of diameter??? Where can I find some background or antecedent of this? How can I make an specification of this device? which is the most important data of one floating device?

Thanks,

Regards,

LbLópez

Hi Lblopez,

Try this link:

I do not recommend a floating skimmer device because the articulated pipe tends to clog o plugging frecuently in a dirty medium (brine is not clean water); so it is not a reliable device.

From my point of view, it is better to install an overflow leg attached to the bottom of the tank, and should be designed to mantain a desired level of interface. It could be adjustable in height, or not, depending on the specific gravity variations for brine and oil.

Moreover, you can try a more sofisticated interface control system (interface sensor, which measures media capacitance, level controller and LV). It has been a more reliable configuration in the cases I been involved.

Best regards,
