Floating Roof Travel speeds

Are there any practical limits on fixing the Pump in /pump out rates for Floating roof Storage tanks ? Else, are there any limits on Floating roof velocities ? any relation to Diameter of tanks ?

There should be limits placed on the fill rates based upon type of roof (steel, aluminum) and the low-leg setting. Filling too fast can cause product to splash through wells in the roof and onto the deck plate. Typically it is recommended to fill the tank slower initially until it is floating before opening-up to full rate. If this is not an option then using a diffuser and deflector plate is an option. Typically a good velocity to use is 3 ft/sec.

Once the roof is floating there is no floating roof reason to limit the fill rate. I have seen roofs rise 30 feet in a few minutes without damage. Product swirl, turbulence and static generation must be controlled with a properly designed diffuser. Just a short pipe with large slots may not be enough.

There is no limit for the speed. Hoever, you need to control the flow that go to the tank to ensure there will be no high movment in the floud
