Flow assurance vs hydraulics

Hi Guys,

i cant seem to differentiate between "flow assurance" and "hydraulics" in terms of what both are meant to achieve. I know flow assurance deals with pressure drop, temperature drop, wax formation and gas hydrate formation which can inhibit smooth flow. My understanding of hydraulics seems to handle similar issues.

can some one help me out here?

Could be its just a new word for an old school?

But in my book hydraulic calculations does not include wax and hydrate formation.

"Flow assurance" is concerned with just that, involving studies to prevent, or solve, flow problems as for the examples brought by Buchi, and many others.

Hydraulics is the branch of science and technology that deals with the mechanics of fluids. As such it is of paramount importance in helping to obtain "flow assurance".

But it is not the only recourse, one also needs the help of other engineering abilities as those concerned with heat and mass transfer; sometimes a knowledge of chemistry and physics may become indispensable to understand, and ultimately succeed in attaining "flow assurance".
