I am looking into replacing an existing RTU product - the Bristol 3330 (discontinuation announced). The device provided a full set of tools for RTU functionality, as well as being a certified device for natural gas measurement. The product will likely be replaced by two stand alone devices (the RTU and Flow Computer), with the intention of establishing some sort of communications bridge between the two. (The Goal being to provide the instantaneous flow, pressure, temp, etc reading associated with the flow computer to the RTU).

My interest is in determining if anyone has done this recently, and what products they selected? I would be most insterested to find a situation where the RTU and FFC where built by the same manufacturer - communications protocol between the two would be more inherent. I know ModBus is so widely available that in theory one could marry almost any two devices, my concern with that is using devices where Modbus is not a native protocol (instead added as an after-thought) and prone to problems. If you have uses modbus, please let me know how that has been working (ie. consistency).

Thank you.
