Hi Guys,

I am doing a detailed design for a Loading Arm Platform and it requires the installation of a turbine meter. API Standard for Turbine Meters and available manufactuers manuals require 10 pipe diameter upstream & 5 pipe diameter downstream of the turbine meter for flow accuracy of the meter. Additionally, flow straighten plate can be installed on the turbine meter for the same purpose.
My question is this: Can the flow straighten plate stand as a replacement for the required 10 pipe diameter upstream & 5 pipe diameter downstream so as to eliminate the need of pipe clearance

Suggest you contact FMC Smith Meter. ( They have a welth of information avaliable for free download including manuals for all their meters. I'm sure they would be willing to talk to you via phone too.

FIY: I have designed several loading racks (loading fuel for trucks) and recomend a PD meter instead of a trubine. They are more expensive but are easier to calibrate and hold thier calibration better.

You can't replace the pipe using the straighten plate. All you can do is to reduce the lenght of this pipe, i.e 7 diameters upstream and 3 downstream, depends who is you turbine supplier.
