Does anyone in this forum have experience using butterfly valves (BFV) for flow throttling services? How successful has that been? I have a need to control the flow through a activated sludge returned sludge line using a valve. I typically use plug valves (PV) for this application but at some installations I have seen BFVs also been used for the same purpose. The BFVs are lighter, smaller and relatively cheaper than PVs.

Thanks in advance.

Butterfly valves are not recommended for this application since there will be stringy debris in the wastewater that will foul the valves. You would be better off with the plug valves.
