I've searched the forums and can't find an answer to my question so here it is. I have a vertical tank with a dimple jacket welded onto it. The vessel is about 40 years old and the manufacturer is out of business. I want to put a circulating tempered water loop on the jacket so I need a flow rate and pressure drop for the pump spec. I have found only one reference for calculating pressure drop in a dimple jacket, an article by Garvin which was published in CEP April 2001. Anyone have any other references for this calculation? Thanks very much.

Some of the more recent heat transfer text books would have correlations for dp and htc in dimple type heat transfer surfaces?

Chemical Engineering Magazine has had several articles over the years.

Contact vessel fabricators who make them. They should share that information.

Good luck,

To a ChE, the glass is always full - 1/2 air and 1/2 water.
