Fluid Power Hydraulic press ??

Hello, I'm still new at understanding hydraulics, and where I am working right now, my intro course to it is not helping me much (im an industrial electrical apprentice). So I was wondering, if someone would be able to explain the diagram for me (highlighting on the diagram would help alot- but no wories), you know, what valves have to be on in order for cirtian things to happen, as I am to start reprogramming the cells.

This valve block is located on a 50 ton Midwest Trim press and was designed by Fluid Power (trims aluminum car parts). The main functions are : ram up, ram down(rapid/fast), trim (ram down slow- but high pressure), slow ram up, medium ram up and fast ram up

There are there are cores and an ejection platen, however they are much easier to understand.

Your request to know what solenoid is on and when is answered in the box at the bottom left of the drawing.

It will be easier if you ask specific questions about how each valve works or what it does, rather than people explaining how the system works in general.

Now that we can all see the drawing, if you explain what you want to do or what you need to know, you will get a better answer.

Thanks for posting up the image. I dont understand how the oil travels where it goes though the valves. I have never seen valve numbers 13, 7, 8, 3, 4 or 9 before. my course only cover the very basics. So when oil go in one of these valves, where does it go when the valve is actuated??

13 is a Slip-In Cartridge cavity that was probably, originally a Counter Balance Valve that did not operate as planned due to it being too far from the cylinder rod end port. Been there and done that. It was replaced with a cavity plug that allows thru flow but blocks all other ports. Counter Balnce is accomplished by 10 at the Cylinder Rod Port for smoother action of the cylinder on extend.

3 and 4 are Normally Open Solenoid Operated Relief Valves that unload the fixed volume pumps until a cycle starts. They also make it possible to use the pumps as a Hi-Lo pump circuit and reduce HP while having fast extend and retract at low pressure. 3 is a Slip-In Cartridge type while 4 is a standard Vickers Balanced Piston model that is gasket mounted to the manifold.

7, 8 and 9 are Slip-In Cartridge Valves that are actually 2-Way Solenoid Operated Valves that control cylinder extend and retract in Regeneration and Full Force. Applying Pilot Pressure to their Full Area (above the "25" or "32") blocks flow from bottom to side, Exhausting Pilot pressure to their Full Area (above the "25" or "32") alows them to open and pass oil.
