When I saw the tittle of this thread, I thought;
"A progressive cavity pump on a deep well, back-spinning.
Centrifugal force exploded the over speeding motor."

I have installed over 20 ceiling fans in my life, many of them for my children.
A few years ago I put my foot down and sid no more cheap fans. More effort than they are worth.
Over the Holidays I installed 3 Minka's for my daughter.
They are sleek, silent, easy to install, and they are reliable. And they are $350 each.
Yes, we have four overhead fans (just fans, no lights). Two of them were installed by an electrician as they are hung from vaulted ceilings that needed wires snaked though to them. The other two I installed myself as they were in bedrooms with normal ceilings and I had easy access from the attic. Not sure of the brands, but they weren't cheap and they've been there 20+ years with no problems other than having to replace the wall switches on two of them (nothing to do with the fans, just a lot of switching on and off).
