I am thinking of running foam piping for petroleum storage tank subsurface in earthen dike.

Looking for clarification on NFPA 11 Chapter 4.7 regarding specifying piping for this application.

Foam solution will be 3% Universal Gold (Kidde/National Foam).

Chapter 4.7.2.1 states Galvanized pipe shall be used for normally noncorrosive atmospheres. However, 4.7.1 also states that Pipe Materials must conform to ASTM A135, A53, or A795. My question is: Does this code absolutely require that this piping be galvanized? or can black pipe be used per 4.7.2.1? We intend to specify the pipe be doped and wrapped with Royston tape or Denso paste and Densyl tape.

Chapter 4.7.1.3 indicates pipe outside the hazard area shall conform to materials allowed by NFPA 24. NFPA 24 does address underground piping, but I can't find the definition for when the piping is considered outside the hazard area. I assume once it enters the dikewall and is protected by earth?

Looking for any clarification or discussion on this issue.

Thanks!
