I am looking for an extrudable foaming epoxy adhesive. Extrudable in this case meaning it has low enough viscosity to be pumped or injected with a pneumatic applicator.
Our application would be "net molded" parts, where a composite honeycomb panel (2 ply prepreg/core/2 ply prepreg) ejects from the tool with finished edges and need little to no fill and fair before applying paint or decorative. The cure should be approximately 265F for 30 minutes. The expansion ratio doesn't need to be extreme, the cured product should be "durable" and not overly porous.
Currently we are using an L&L product that comes in strips. This product works well when it is aggressively packed into all radii of the tool. Each adjacent strip must be forcefully pressed into the next. If the strips are casually laid in the tool, the part will have voids causing undue post processing at fill and fair.
This mystery material would be extruded through a pneumatic applicator around the perimeter of the the honeycomb core prior to the top two layer of prepreg being placed in the mold, the intent to cut layup time.
Do you have any extrudable foaming adhesive recommendations that may improve this process?
