Hello

I've been trying to figure out how to "map" text aspect ratio & ran across thread561-215400 / In this thread it is mentioned setting the aspect ratio to ".7". Could you tell me where or what file you change that setting in.

Thank,
James

If you're talking about changing existing text, select the note, press MB3, select the 'Style...' option and then select the 'Lettering' tab. You can now change all the settings which effect the size and appearance of the text, including, but not limited to, its 'Aspect Ratio'.

Hi John
In that thread they were talking about "mapping" text aspect ratio. That's not the same thing as the procedure you just mentioned is it? I was assuming that "mapping" would perform that on all text in a drawing upon export, is that right?

James

No, this is what Hudson was talking about.

If you go back and reread Hudson's post in that other thread you will see that he was talking about using the 'polyline' method for 'mapping' text fonts. What that does is literally convert the NX fonts into CGM elements, but they will also be a 'stroked' font, just like NX fonts (hence the use of the term 'polyline'). So the point he was making is that in this situation, you need to control the actual appearance of the text strings in NX before they are exported since they are going to be copied as is. If you do not use the 'polyline' option then the appearance of the NX font will be ignored and the text will be rendered in whatever font is set as the default for exporting CGM files.

Thanks John for your explanation.
Is there anyway at all to control the physical length of a word and or the font type it's transformed to, when exporting with 2D Exchange, by adding or editing the contents of "ugto2d.def" & or "dxfdwg.def"?

Thanks,
James

Not sure about the 'ugto2d' or 'dxfdwg', but CGM export does provide a scheme where you can map NX fonts to specific TT or CGM standard fonts.

The file used to set this mapping scheme is named 'cgmdef.txt' and can be found in the UGII folder. It's probably best to open this file using 'Wordpad' with 'Word Wrap' set to 'No Wrap'.

Now if you would like to customize this file and use it as a standard you can set the environment variable...

UGII_CGM_DEFAULTS=

...to the full path to where your copy of the 'cgmdef.txt' file is located.
