Food grade glycol plant

Good morning collegues,

I work in planta producing glycols. Last week my boss mentioned the possibility of producing a new grade in our products, food grade.

Could someone explain to me or lead to a resource about which are the main changes to be done in a chemical plant to be able to reach food grade? I guess that there must a regulation which sets the standard.

The answer depends on where you plan to sell this product. If you want to produce food grade glycol for the EU market, then look up the EU governmental requirements for classifying a material as food grade. If you plan to sell into the US market, then look up the US governmental regulation. You should be able to find all governmental regulations on the internet.

I think food grade products have to be processed in stainless steel equipment & vessel, but go to the source documents on the internet to learn the details.

I am uncomfortable with your usage of the non-specific term "glycol"

Suggest that you review the differences between "ethylene glycol" (poison) and "propylene glycol" (food additive)

There are other glycols produced and in common industry usage.
