Hello,

I am designing a combined footing. With that, what are the possible scenarios which might cause the footing to lose contact on the soil?

Eccentric loading results in a footing that may have a negative bearing pressure. This is in theory, in reality the footing doesnt lift off the soil

If uplift forces develop at the columns and the wt of ftg and overburden is less than total uplift force, then the ftg can lose contact. In case of oOnly moment , some portion of the ftg may subject to uplift as Mr . EireChch (Geotechnical) stated.

Erosion of soil from under the footing. This happens, I've had to deal with it.
