I looking to find out if there is a way to force SW to dimension, specifically a radius, with a diameter.

I found that bolt circles are created using radiused sections of center line so when I go to dimension it I only get a radius.

I also have a case of a sprocket with a shaft hole and key slot. Because of the key slot I get a radius instead of a diameter.

An way to make it do this.

Place your (radius) dimension as usual.
Then, right click on the dimension,
Select properties
Check the Diameter Dimension Option

This allows you to turn any radius dim into a diameter dim or vice versa.

An easy way to fix this automatically is to move your cursor to the other side of the center line when you pick on screen to place your dimension. I thick this is what you were asking about.

Pro/E did this with a double click on the line or point being dimensioned. I had problems with this earlier and found the whole properties situation a little annoying. But cool tip Arlin I'll give it a try next time but I think if you know first that you want a diameter that the screen pick location helps make diameter dims easier to create.

I agree the properties thing in SW is a bit annoying. This is where I try to use macros as much as possible. All the little menu items I use over and over and over again, I just write up a macro and put a button on the screen for it. Tangent Edges (Font, Visible, Hidden); Dimension (Driving,Driven); View (Sketchs, Temp Axis). Enough of the menus, I toggle all of these with a macro button.
