Forensic case: How to simulate bone in 3D application? 1

It is a virtual cranium with injuries (done in 3ds Max) and I would like to to use 3ds Max and/or Photoshop (any other recommended apps are welcome) in order to generate virtual X-rays as similar as possible to the ones from the real patient's autopsy:

My question specific to materials engineering (not my field, I am a EE/CS) is this: to what degree it is possible to simulate human bone using the set of materials provided by modern 3D applications?

It looks to be an issue of density of the image.
If you were to make the model less solid, so that we could see what is behind it then it might look more like an Xray.
