Any website i can go to get forging / casting equivalents?

Customer wants ASTM A182 F316L, but we only deal with castings.

Thank you!

I would hope that you and your client know that casting and forging product forms are NOT equivalent, and should not be indiscriminately substituted for in service applications.

For castings, you can start here after you have a similar chemical composition from the wrought product form;

Our customers do this to a lot - send us a datasheet with forging specs listed and ask us to supply castings. I don't think saying this to them will go down very well!

We normally use NORSOK as a point of reference however they don't list the "L" requirement.

Thanks anyway.

Assuming,in a casting you maintain the same chemistry as in a forging grade,which is very simple to do,how do you ensure structural integrity, and mechanical properties which are unique to a forging and cannot be duplicated in a casting. I am surprised at your customer's insistence without consulting a specialist.

I would like to say thank you for taking the time to answer this question - however perhaps a simple no would have done.

We don't pull the wool over our customer's eyes and it is their responsibility when the question is asked to find out if the engineers will accept the material.

Many thanks all - no further responses necessary.

What a strange exchange! Somebody could have answered you with A351 CF3M and then asked why, if you deal with castings, you didn't know that already.

Thank you - had a slight wobble between CF3M and CF8, couldn't get hold of relevant people very quickly to answer question so thought I would post on here.
We usually deal with CF8M, hence the hesitation over the different specs.
Just needed quick advice that's all!

Thanks again
