why the form of groove on ball for locating end of stem is curve type? why is not a simple pocket?

The stem has a rectangular portion which fits into the slot allowing the ball to be rotated as the stem is turned.

To increase the bearing surface of the slot without affecting the area where the seal rings are.

Cutting the slot is faster and easier using a round mill cutter. This way it can be cut in one quick step. End milling a slot takes longer to cut and the accuracy of the slot width is not as consistent.
