I am going to design a 2 story building on debris flow/landslide debris materials. Some excavation in the debris showed that soil profiles are not well developed in this area indicating a relatively young age of deposition but it was uniform in clour and particle size distribution and (some boulders). A loose compactness could explain the almost unstable walls.

What are thee concerns about bearing a footing on debris flow? Thanks.

Presumably you would be founding your footings on the material below the debris flow reducing the risk of differential settlement, are you sure the slope is now stable and is not creeping or likely to be re-mobilised following a significant rainfall event (or other source of water). I would have thought you would want to get an experienced local engineer looking at that site, One who may have some insite to the area's history.

Delsks,

Geohazard risk assessment carried out shows that the area is safe for a building construction. The site is flat with no risk of slides. The current task is finding geotechnicl parameters for foundation design. Thanks for all the valuable feedback.

collapsible foundation soils caused by either wetting or seismic are possible

Looks like you will be either driving piles or surcharging the site. If some engineer says "buildable", what did he mean? No fixing or build anyhow but pay the price for the fix?
