Free non-linear FEA Solver? 1

Hi there,

Does anyone know of any good free non-linear FEA solvers for windows? I'm a materials engineer by degree, but I'd like to start using FEA for some side projects I'm currently working on.

Hang on, non linear in what way?

Contacts? materials? discrete dampers? Geometry?

CalculiX is probably the best bet. Code Aster is another option. LISA is free for smaller models; there is a node limit which you have to fork over $80 to exceed.

Opensees is intended for seismic analysis of structures, but it seems to me it would make a good general purpose program as well, free and open-source, and seems to be still well supported:
