I have a small network consisting of Windowz boxes and a FreeBSD (4.7) box. I use a Netgear PS113 print server also. I have (3) printers; a Deskjet 722c, a LaserJet 6L and a Panasonic Dot matrix (old) connected to the printserver. I can print to all printers with the Windows boxes. I once could print to all printers with a Linux box that I had. I now can print to the Panasonic with FreeBSD but I can not print to the HP's.
Using the 'lpr' command I can send a text file to the Panasonic no problem. The LaserJet 6L spits out blank paper only and the DeskJet does not respond althought the printserver lights flash as if there is communication to the DeskJet.
Is there special requirements for printing to the HP's (filters etc.) Do I need certain cable types?
Any ideas?
TIA.

There's a program called apsfilter, a general-purpose printer filter for unix. It's in the ports system for FreeBSD and, although I haven't personally tried it, others claim it works well for printer setups.
