Freestyle constraint not applying

In the freestyle workbench, trying to set a matching constraint between 2 surface edges, after selecting the edges and hitting apply no constraint is created. ~This feature has worked previously, its just stopped yesterday, presumably a temporary error file somewhere? Does anybody use this feature and know why it might not be working?
