A great deal of work has been done on the freqency respose of synchronous machine. How different is it from induction motor if i want to find a best way to test it?

THANKS!!

Suggestion: The induction motor is significantly simpler to model than the synchronous machine. There should not be any problem.
1. Check with
for frequency response info
2. Also, notice that for example the Laplace transform is used more for transient analysis rather than for frequency response. See Reference:
IEEE Std 399-1997 IEEE Recommended Practice for Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Analysis
3.2.7.1 Transient Analysis by Laplace Transform. The frequency related responses and modeling would be more related to Harmonic Analysis Studies of the Induction Motor. Paragraph 10.5.3 Induction Motor Model would lend itself for frequency analyses under the Harmonic Analysis Studies.

We recently had both of our two incoming high voltage lines out of for a brief period of time (3hours). During this time we were solely running on generator power (3 50 MW generators and 2 75 MW generators). We were running at 61 Hz for 3 hours. The machinery guys were scratching their heads because they could were monitoring vibration levels on their machines because they hadn't gotten vibration alarms on alot of their motor driven gear boxes. They could not explain why all the motors at the plant were running at higher than normal rpm. The higher frequency caused the motors to speed up. I thought it was just worth mentioning to consider the effects of to system of continously running at a frequency of other than 60 hz.
