Simple question really but I'm rather confused and I can't find the answer on the Abaqus user manual.

*Friction
0.05, 1000

What are the two numbers? One is obviously the coefficient of friction but what is the other? Is the order the coefficient in the 1 and 2 direction?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

The second parameter is slip rate. if you want to you can define friction coefficient which
is not constant but depends on relative velocity of sliding bodies.

However definition with one line does not make a difference because Abaqus always will use one value.

Following definition makes more sense:
Code:
**
*FRICTION
0.1, 500.0
0.3, 600.0
0.4, 1000.0
**

Now friction coefficient can change from 0.1 to 0.4 depend what slip rate is during contact.

For details see: Abaqus Analysis User's Manual, 36.1.5 Frictional behavior, Using the default model
