Fuel flow metering for diesel 4WD/SUV ? 1

Can anyone point me to in-line fuel flow meters suitable for a diesel Landcruiser/Prado engine please? Intention is to build then calibrate simple consumption instrument, so any info on circuits etc that work with flow meters would also assist (to save designing my own). How do flow meters work and what is nature of outputs? My previous Ford/GM sedans had these OEM; don't know if they would work with diesel as well as with gasoline. kind regards Tony

Most flow meters (and similar instruments) return a standard 5 volt TTL waveform
