Hi,
Does anyone know of a quick way to fully constrain a part in a product without using fix.
It seems a bit daft to me but the customers checker wont allow a fix constraint other than fixing
the Main sub assemblies into the Top level product.
As you can imagine, this is taking me forever.

cheers gents

Hi Alan, you can use coincidence between two axis systems.
In this case you must have adapter which is fixed inside product, in that adapter you have axis systems for position of parts
and in the part u have absolute Axis system or you can create one.

Even if a script could create axis system and constraints to fix everything, I have the feeling it is not the result your customer is looking for. you should check with him if this would be a accepted or not.

If you go with this solution without asking your customer, he/she will think you're trying to outsmart him/her finding a way to give him/her garbage, which might not be the best way to impress YOUR CUSTOMER.

If customer insist on fully/nicely constrained assembly then take that into account when you submit your service ($$$)

Yeah he should ask of course,
but Axis to Axis is the best way to make position of Parts, the most easiest
and most cleaner way.

All the best

Thanks guys,
In this instance I think they just want something to get through the checker.
The jobs gone massively over budget and muggings here got the smelly end of the stick.
I don’t understand this axis to axis with an adaptor. Could you please explain it?
I thought an axis to axis would just create a point to point without any angular constraints.
I would have to submit an assembly and see if there happy but anything that could reduce the amount of constraints I’m creating would be a blessing.
The people who did the job in the first place just created offsets to random parts. This has resulted in any mods totally blowing the assemblies.

Your help is really appreciated gents, thanks
Alan

I can try, if you do not get it i can make tutorial for you.
1. You have product
2. Inside product make one part give it name Adapter or smthng.
3. Fix that adapter.
4. Inside adapter make sketch with points
5. Make Axis Systems on those points
5. Like for every set of same parts u must create one geo, inside sketch with points and then axis systems
6. And now just use coincidence between part and this axis systems in adapter, this is all

7. if you want to move parts just go back to sketch and move point.

is it oky?

Thanks, I think I get it.
I’ll have a go when I get onsite tomorrow.
If I have any problems I’ll take you up on the tutorial if that’s ok.

Thanks HarunMusic :)
