Hi, I am new to modeling (I'm using SAP2000) and I would like to clarify some things.

I am to analyze a warehouse consisting of metal frames and a gabled roof. The roof consists of three single gabled portions and would look like this on elevation view:

/\/\/\
___
(xz plane)
____
___
___
(xy plane)

The gables are angled at 14.085 degrees.

My question is, will the roof act as a diaphragm? If yes, when considering the xz plane, will it consist of 6 diaphragms (one for each gable) with only the two end faces each having one shear wall? Or do I consider the roof as a whole with the shear walls at the ends? How about in the x-y plane?

Also, when I model it as a diaphragm, should I do it as rigid or flexible?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on how you have the gable roof connected. Without knowing more about your model, try to run as a flexible diaphragm with no constraint diaphragm assignment.
