All,

A relation of mine has recently had an interview (by telephone) for a position with a large US medical multinational. She told me that the telephone interview was conducted using the Gallup Interview process, which I have never heard of.

So curiousity has got the better of me and I was interested to hear others comments/tips and advice regarding this interview technique.

80% of communication is body language (although I never understood how people ever quantified that but anyway). Voluntarily giving up 80% of the use of the interview to save a few peanuts on travel expense of candidates sounds to me like putting the horse behind the carriage. Hiring the right people is much too important to make it a marginal activity.

When we hire people there are multiple interviews with different teams of people during at least an entire morning or afternoon (including lunch with a few glasses of wine, which is usually very revealing), followed by a psych test just to detect any hidden "defects". Still this gives only limited information and I find it extremely difficult to compare different candidates if there is a week or more between the interviews.

We use telephone interviews to screen out blatantly unsuitable candidates prior to going to the expense of a second face-to-face interview. I've never heard of the "Gallup Interview Process" though. I expect its some HR guru who's come up with a good name and a new way to package what amounts to the same thing. We've recently had to go through "Competency-based Interview" training to ensure we have the right paperwork to prove we were right in hiring the person who would have been offered the job anyway.

Are you sure your cousin wasn't taken in by a scammer who asked for personal information (especially if she is not US native and is looking for job in the US?)

Just being somewhat cynical...
