Galvanic Corrosion in mixed SS - Paper 2

I recall seeing a paper published some time ago describing sea water galvanic effects between some different austenitic and (I think) duplex stainlesses that showed a galvanic corrosion reversal between 316 and another SS. The author may have been Kearns. I cannot locate the paper. Can anyone help me?

Try ASTM publication STP 965. There is a paper by Kearns in that publication but can't promise it's the one you're looking for.

Ed - Thanks for the contact. I will give Jim a call. I found the paper I was looking for myself, with a search on Google's Scholar search site. Great site! The paper can be found at

It does show enhanced galvanic corrosion of some more corrosion resistant ferritics in contact with 316 under some very aggressive test conditions. Any thoughts?

DMC is an interesting situation.
Believe me, we tell people to NEVER put SEA-CURE tubes into a 316 tubesheet under any water conditions.

There are two factors, the 'weaker' alloy is suffering crevice corrosion, and then the corrosion products make the environment in the crevice severe enough to attack the stronger alloy.
The worst cases are with superferritics, but I have never seen the testing done with duplex grades. It could be similar.
