galvanic series for sulfuric acid app 2

Hi All,

Is there such a thing as a galvanic series for sulfuric acid or is the acid too weak of an electrolyte to have a galvanic corrosion problem?

I have a new pump with an alloy 20 liquid end that I want to hook up to existing carbon steel (A106) piping.

Sulfuric acid concentration is 93% and is at room temperature.

Any comments?

The concentrated sulfuric acid is a strong electrolyte, hence the galvanic corrosion you have mentioned is very likely. You must prevent the electric conductivity between the pump and the C/S piping, by using suitable insulators. However, the 93% acid will not significantly corrode the C/S at 20 deg C (what is your definition of room temperature?), but over 25-28 deg C, the corrosion and erosion in C/S pipe increases considerably, hence the galvanic corrosion will be the least of your concerns.

i agree with gr2evssels, your first concern should be the corrosion of the carbon steel due to H2SO4. Carbon Steel is resistant to concentrated sulfuric acid at low velocity.

Why would you assume that I didn't like the answers from the other thread?

As you can see, my question in this thread is considerably different than the original question.
I am trying to use this opportunity to learn about corrosion issues instead of simply asking for a recomendation for one particular application.
