My company purchased some equipment from a German manufactuer and the gas falme system uses galvanized piping. I thought that was illegal? What are the laws / regulations about using galvanized piping in the USA?

I am also in the real estate business. When I ask the building inspectors any question like this I get about the same non answer. Which is, get a contractor to do it and if is wrong I will tell you then. The companies who make furnaces and gas valves may have an engr who could tell you if it is science or building code. I can tell you the fumes from welding, burning galvanized pipe are toxic. a controlled oven may never reach the temp that burns the coating.

I don't know about the legal end of it but the main reason for not using galvanized parts on gas lines is it tends to flake off and can plug up the small passages. If it's in good shape you might be ok. If there's room you could install a drip leg to catch the flakes.
