Hi!

Anyone here who have experienced in structural design and analysis of crane (gantry crane, overhead crane, jib etc) using Eurocode?
I've been dealing with such structure and just started studying Eurocode after transition from BS code. I'm looking for useful spreadsheets, software or worked examples that i can have as reference.

We are currently designing a 50 m high gantry crane and is required to calculate overturning moment due to wind actions and due to crane motion as well. Theoretically i had initial calculation and the Client requires a cable that will hold the crane in stable position during operation to avoid overturning.

Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hi Neukcm,

As you are using Eurocodes, I would assume that you or your client is within Europe. I am in the UK and I would suggest that you have a look at BS EN 13001-1. This is the standard for designing cranes of any sort. There are a list of other standards in Annex A of this document that are more specific to different types of cranes and may be more suited to your needs i.e. WI 00147 032 Cranes — Bridge and gantry cranes.

Hi J,

Thanks for your respond!

We are using Euro code but our client mostly were locals. Is this downloadable? I'll search for this.

Once again, thank you.
