I have a weekend project coming up and would appreciate any pointers, criticism etc. to help. Am I over/underestimating the structure of a freestanding mezzanine storage above my garage doors. The attached photo depicts my intent. I was planning on going with 2x10x20’ #1SYP for the long spans (vs photo I joists) and 1-1/2”x 11” LVL between single and double car space. . I’m thinking also of adding doubled up 2x10’s on exterior walls where the joist will hang from. Five 4x4’s to hold the doubled up 2x10's on the existing 4” ledge all around the garage. A post that is labeled as 6x6 or 8x8 in photo will support the LVL. Load on the ceiling or walls is not an option. For stability, tapping into the wall studs is acceptable. Free standing shelves, basically for light storage (hoses, deck furniture, holiday decorations). No railings, just storage.
NOTE: The white areas are open to ceiling areas, the cross hatch area is solid ply. Central Ohio, enclosed garage, no climate control.
Any shortcomings in my ideas that I’m overlooking?
