Wanting to do a project centered around the Garmin Lidar Lite V3 sensor, started with a autonomous vehicle application, that was too software oriented. Transitioned to 3D scanning, feeling as though the application is not feasable - useful/accurate. What are some mechanical projects that can be done with this sensor? Trying to research but only seeing drone, robot, and autonomous vehicle repeatedly, which is not super helpful for a defense company/mechanical project.
Thank you!

Lauren_B3,

Are you trying to solve a problem or are you looking for something to do.

That device is a straight-forward LiDAR rangefinder. You point it at stuff and it tells you how far away it is. It is not scanned. If you want scanning, you will have to build a scanner. Scanning 2D LiDARs seem to be a standard self-propelled robot application.

It only has a 40-m range, so vehicle applications are likely limited. And, it's just a straight range-finder; you'd need to build a scanning mechanism to get that sort of utility out of it. Its resolution is slightly less than 1/2 inch, so that makes a lot of short range applications out of reach.
