Greetings,

I am looking for information about the gas atomization process to produce metal powders.
I would like to know the efficiency of the process: e.g. what is the weight of inconel used to produce 1 kg of inconel powder?
Also, I would like to know the energy consumed (power plasma torches seem to be around 100-500 kW) to produce 1 kg of metal powder (I suppose it varies between metal because of the different melting temperatures)
Finally, I would like to know the gas consumption during the process (m³ or kg of gas needed to procude 1 kg of powder).

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers!

Thomas

Start pulling up papers from past MS&T, RAPID, and AeroMat meetings.
There are hundreds of papers that you will have to read through to find the details that you are looking for.
The best short cut may be to talk with some of the equipment manufacturers of gas/vacuum atomization equipment.
