Gas Regulator Vent Termination Locations

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with or know of code in NFPA 54 or IFGC that states required distance for gas regulator vent terminations above grade? Want to terminate these through side wall on first level of the building.

I can't find anything in these codes. Also, anything on distances operable windows or doors?

Best thing to do is to consult with your locality fire department or the state fire marshal.

Also consult the manufacturer or the distributor of the gas regulator. The instruction that comes in the packaging may alsogive you additional information.

Contact the local gas utility for guidance.

I generally use the diagram in the IFGC Appendix C for discharge vents from appliances. Also, be careful of air intakes complying with ASHRAE 62.1

You might also take a look at the Plumbing Code and mirroring the rules for a sanitary vent. They are surprisingly similar. If it is a large diameter/high flow though, you'll want more clearance than the minimums.

but check your building code, or you will have trouble with your AHJ. The link includes a bunch of references, at the end.

Part of the answer depends on the type and size of the regulator, some regulators include a pressure relief function. It also makes a difference if this is a utility owned regulator or customer equipment.
