For the Electrical Substations and the Field Auxillary buildings located in the safe area, the Client specifications calls for Gas tight dampener ( fire dampner) with Motorized type. Where as the EPC contractor prefer to give Pneumatic type and says the action will be quick.

Need to know whether there are any specific factors to be considered for the selection of a specific type ? or it is based on the preference to the client ?

Would like to get the insight from the forum before i go to client for discussion.

[li]I assume by dampner you mean damper.[/li]
[li]define "gas tight". fire dampers shut off airflow but I don't think manufacturers would define their products as "gas tight"[/li]
[li]Define "EPC"[/li]
[li]Fire dampers have different hour ratings depending on the requirements of the space. Do your code research and ask a qualified engineer in your office for guidance.[/li]
[li]How fast do you need the damper to shut?[/li]
[li]Pneumatic dampers require compressed air which require an air compressor and distribution piping. This is a lot of extra scope if not truly required.[/li]

True fire dampers are either gravity or spring operated . A motorized damper can be used as a fire damper , only if it fails to the closed position if the electricity is shut off or fails. Anything else is a control damper.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.
