Hi,
I'm currently designing a pressure vessel, material carbon steel, with standard flange Slip On acc. to B16.5 welded to the nozzle. Construction code: ASME VIII Div.1

Problem: my client requires to use gaskets acc. to EN 1514-1 or acc. to B16.21 (Reinforced graphite type).

In my calculation software I check B16.5 flanges as standard, do you think it's correct? Or shall I check acc. to appendix 2?

Thank you

ElCidCampeador I don't know what EN 1514-1 gaskets are, but I'd not be concerned about the graphite, given dimensional compatibility. Running a B16.5 flange as Apx 2 is known to be troublesome :)

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

You should be OK with using ASME B16.21 gaskets.
But EN 1514-1 gaskets are typically used with EN 1092 flanges so I would think your client doesn't know the difference.
Unless you're reading a generic specifications where both are allowed depending on the flange type.

But ASME VIII Div.1 requires a specific gasket type for standard B16.5 flange?
My client pushes me to use EN 1514-1...

Warning: if I check SO flanges b16.5 with App.2, I have to change flanges...(but I need to avoid this)...the best for me would be using SO B16.5 standard flanges (No app.2) + EN 1514-1 gasket but I don't know if it's allowed by ASME

Well, you could take the position that Code scope stops at the flange face.

I really think you are over-complicating this...
