Greeting to everyone

I have one flange where gasket is placed near flange id=1000mm with gasket width 13mm. Internal design pressure is 100 kg/cm2 & 150 deg c design temperature.

Flange pcd is 1283 mm

Later after procurement I come to know that gasket shall be placed always near to pcd for better leak proof joint & asme also has recommendation for same in appendix 2

Flange is passing the thickness calculation & flange rigidity check as well with 0.5 value which is less than 1.

I am worried for recommendation part. Is this flange design ok if passing as per code

Thanks in advance

Any flange design code?

In your case due to the high design pressure the Operating condition of Appendix 2 will almost certainly be the governing condition for the design of the flange (as opposed to the Gasket Seating condition), so you would want to minimize the pressure area by using the smallest diameter/narrowest gasket that's practical. If the Gasket Seating condition was governing the design of the flange, you would want to minimize the lever arm between the bolts and the gasket line of action in order to reduce the bending moment on the flange.

But the Appendix 2 flange design method was never intended to protect against flange leakage. For that I would suggest you follow the guidelines listed in Appendix O of ASME PCC-1.
