gasket selection

i do not have any standard or guidline for selection of gaskets (variouse types of gaskets as per ASME SEC.VIII DIV.1 APP.2)due to design condition (temp.,press.,service,...) of heat exchanger. i wonder what is the margin for selection of spiral wound,groove, flat or etc.
should any one have any standard, practical guide , specification or etc. please let me know. thanks anyway.
