Hello there,
I am working on a design where I must seal 40psi or so of air pressure on a relatively small chamber (4" x 13" flange oval shape)... I don't really have room for an O ring seal so my intent was to use a cut organic fiber gasket which fits around the bolt pattern.
My question is this- where can I find information regarding the maximum bowing / lift between each pair of bolts under load? I have already calculated this in FEA and confirmed with hand calculation, but I have no idea what is acceptable. I'd prefer to open up the bolt spacing and use larger bolts, but I need to know what sort of deflection is acceptable.
On the current design i've got about .0015" of deflection under max design load.
Thanks in advance for whatever pointers you guys can offer.
